Human Spine is made up of 33 bones called Vertebrae. These bones protects human spinal cord. Ligaments hold these bone togther. The top part of spine is called as Cervical Spine. 

Cervical Spine Surgery :
An anterior cervical discectomy (ACD)
This is used to remove the damaged disk from spine. Empty space is filled with metal or some synthetic implant. 

A cervical laminectomy
In this, Parts of the bone are removed to reduce strain on the spinal cord or nerves.
A foraminotomy
The neural foramen is a small portion of bone that is removed from around the nerves to enable more space for the nerves and to relieve blocked nerve roots.
Reasons for Cervical Spine Surgery : 
A slipped disc.
Cervical spondylosis.
Benefits of Cervial Spine Surgery:
Your deteriorating symptoms should be slowed, although not always treated, if you have nerve or cord compression. If you don't have surgery, the compression will worsen, possibly leading to disability.

In some cases, pain management and physical therapy is usefull. It's important to get advise of doctor for alternative therapy.
